It's as if I've been living out of a suitcase this whole month.  I pack, go, come home, do laundry, pack, go again, then come home, just to do it all again.  I've just been keeping the suitcases out in the hallway instead of putting them away.

It's been a crazy run of things lately but I'm not complaining.  There have been a lot of fun activities and events to do this summer, pretty much all requiring overnight stays and driving.  My family lives hours away, so getting together requires planning and at least a couple free days to get together.  Sometimes (many times) I wish all my peeps lived within a 10-mile-or-so radius.  I'd love to be able to pop in at my Mom's house for coffee, stop by my sister's to chat, or pick up my nephews and get ice cream.  I just tell myself that the distance makes our time together more special.  Sometimes that makes me feel better.  And I look forward to the next time we'll be together.

This weekend my family is coming up for a visit.  It's a great time of year to visit here.  Last weekend we went up north to prepare our cabin for our visitors.  It's nice to have company once in a while like that, to clean the cobs out.

In the middle of the day on Sunday we took a boat ride on the lake to cool off, and I snapped this photo of an eagle preparing to scoop down for a fish.  It isn't rare to see an eagle in this area, but it still makes me stop in my tracks when I see one.

It was nice to stop in my tracks for a few minutes.
Now I have to go unpack and do some laundry.

It was another great day yesterday at Market Place Thursday!

We cannot say thank you enough to all of you who support your local artisans.
Jody and I really look forward to seeing the lovely people
who come back every week to check out what's new.
They tell us what they like, give suggestions and feedback,
and make it a point to buy locally.
We appreciate that so much.

America's Best Frisbee Dogs performed twice yesterday,
and it was awesome to see lots of people, kids, and dogs gather on the 400 Block.

Since dogs were the theme of the day, we offered some dog-related items,
even personalized dog i.d. tags (made while-you-wait!)

Jody pounding metal i.d. tags

Here is Hope waiting for her new tag...

Mio got a new tag too...and this snazzy yellow collar from another artisan at the Market!
Truffles, Jody's studio dog, came along for the ride and got lots of love...

...lots of talking to...

...and lots of kisses...

Another ruff day at the office.

One of the best things about graduating from a rural school with a class of only 57 people,
is getting together 20 years later with friends you've known since kindergarten...
Birthday Party, 1978
...telling stories, laughing til your belly hurts...
Me, Eric & my sister Amy
...reconnecting with the BFF you swore you'd never lose contact with,
but it happened anyway...

Me & Heather, 1992
...and the friend you've known since first grade
that you later lived with for three years in college...

Me, my sister Amy & Leslie
...marveling how you eventually ended up living in another state,
only 19 miles from the very first friend you ever had...

My sister Amy, Janelle & Me
...how you've gone back to wearing your hair the same length it was in your senior picture.

My big hair & Me, 1991

And realizing it's true what they say...

...even though you didn't always think so at the time,
those were, indeed, some of the best days of your life.

This week Jody and I won't be at Market Place Thursday,
since we will both be out of town (it was scheduled, no worries).

We've invited our friend Karen to use our space tomorrow.
Karen makes beautiful jewelry.  You can check out her website here:

We'll see you back at the Market next week!

Our dog was named after the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy.
It was one of the places we visited on our Mediterranean honeymoon.
Must have still been fresh on our minds when we brought home our little black Lab puppy
not long after we married.

Miss Pompeii
Age 7 1/2 (in human years)

The city of Pompeii was frozen in time after Mt. Vesuvius erupted in the year AD 79,
burying everything in its path in volcanic ash.
They are still in the process of excavating streets and homes,
and are learning invaluable clues about ancient Roman life.
It's really an awesome place to visit.

A few days ago, I was given a very thoughtful souvenir from a friend
who recently visited the city of Pompeii.
The tile is a replica of a mosaic found on the floor of a home in Pompeii.
It says "Beware of The Dog".

Totally cool, right?

Pompeii...
I can't think of any other name that would better fit the quirky personality
of our little black volcano.
